How R&I is driving the digital transformation

A Europe fit for the digital age is one of the main priorities of the new European Commission. Digital technologies are changing Europeans’ lives by transforming the way we work, think, produce, or even socialize. The Digital Transformation is essential for Europe to maintain and increase its competitiveness and position in the world. Moreover, digital technologies and applications are major drivers of innovation and the development of solutions to solve today’s big challenges.

For many years, the Digital Agenda has been high on the political agenda. However, we are still just at the beginning, and major efforts have still to be made. Europe needs to become a leader in emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain, and improve its capability to exploit Big Data. At the same time, we must guarantee a high level of security and digital sovereignty.

On June 30, we will be discussing about the role of research and innovation in the digital transformation strategy with a keynote from Roberto Viola, Director General of DG Connect.
