STATE OF THE ART

The microbial biome plays a considerable role in health, wellbeing, moods, longevity, weight and many others,            similarly to DNA role in shaping our individual «story». The integration and application of [metagenomics] data from the human MICROBIOME has shown large potential for personalised medicine approaches (MICROBIOME focus). To catch the microbiomic signature of as many individuals as possible, starting from the idea that every microbiome is different, treatments could be «tailor-made» to individual genetic mutations and biomic compositions (AI role).

FUTURE TRENDS

The clinical and scientific outcomes will result in moving from simple diagnostic to preventive and personalised medicine (bio-therapeutics) via three  main levers:

  • Predictive analysis
  • Preventive usage
  • Personalised treatments

This innovative approach might also find suitable applications in space (e.g. manned missions to Mars).

EXPECTED IMPACTS

  • Synergic collection of data of the microbiome from different areas/sources;
  • Harmonization of scientific data in Europe and worldwide
  • Integration of large volumes of data in multilateral areas
  • Personalised medicine approaches both on Earth and in space
  • Efficient use of available human and financial resources
  • Universal and fine-tuned «language» linking science to society (social-economic impact)

This session will bring together scientists, health practitioners and policy-makers to provide their expert views on this potential disruptive innovation challenging the future of human health.
